Afghanistan has banned the film on the grounds that it could incite violence. Before the movie debut, the studio behind the film, Paramount Vantage, had to get its three young stars out of Afghanistan (their homeland) to protect them from a possible backlash.
Not fair! I was waiting to get this on DVD. Hmmph!
Some Afghans in Internet and TV’s are very angry about the film – most of them didn’t read the book.
It seems, they can’t make difference between fiction and reality. How is reaction of ordinary people in Kabul?
to be honest the reason why alot of people get upset in Afghanistan with things like these especially movies that are supposed to be “fiction” is because it is damn right true to the very end, it is exposing those who did these crimes in Afghanistan that are banning these movies.. they know it’s representing them in so many ways. I don’t care how fiction you say this movie is, these events actually did accure in Afghanistan. And I’m glad someone is putting on film so everyone can see the reality of it.
Sure, these events are happened.
But to understand the real story someone need to have background knowledge of history and ability to understand message of writer in book – a film can’t show it. Otherwise, a film can lead to dangerous misunderstanding. For example, a young man in Germany was asking, if Pashtuns really did suppress other ethnics – the history told us: Hazarah were suppressed not only by Pashtuns. Second point, there were Pashtuns rulers, who did suppression, not all Pashtuns.
As I understand the book, it wasn’t the aim of Husseini to lead to misunderstanding.
it is cool movies first of all,,,,because it is truth that have occurred in AFG…many people think it is racism and it is against pashtoons but it is totally wrong..I have watched that movie and actors have put so many efford to it
The government of afg includes those stupid men
and it represent them so that is the only reason that they have banned them
Everyone know the truth but just they don’t want to see the actual truth because it is so
mostly teenagers thing that at least at the time of taliban in afg there was peace
if there is peace without freedom what the hell we need a peace
we are human,,,,after all we can’t live with this system all out life
it is the first country who has a leastest rate of life which is 42 if we only live 42 years then how long should we spend our life in prison…already there have been 3 dedicates war
if USA works for their own goods but at least we can have our freedom and can build up afg by using them as they use our land
if afg goverment would intellegent then they would use something in the present of USA….
anyways we still have hopes for the future
if someone need the movie of kite runner you can see the truth on it as it is fiction
but the real one is
I guess one issue us ‘western’ afghans don’t comprehend is the sensitivity of the Pashtun-Hazara groups. Apparently, this movie touches on those sensitive areas.
You’re right, the Afghan gov’t should use the presence of coalition troops for it’s benefit. US is benefiting, so why not.
if anyone actually is from afghanistan they should know, that the worst stuff happend in afghanistan, but when someone try to take them to the stage where the situation in Afghanistan has got just a bit better to live all people together . I think this was just another dirthy hand of whom they only think about there pocket and dont know anything about the culture of afghans.
dont mention that they choose an iranian spoken men in there movie to represent afghan Dari language.
full of mistake in wrong time in wrong place with a really less knowledge
of afghan pure culture. and I welcome all people who banned this crap and full of s*** Movie.
in one point i got the idea the that the maker of this movie might tried to bring his dads story to real picture, but again i refused to think.
I think the maker of this movie needs to be educated in afghan culture.
this is not the time to put sult on our poor people afghans hurts.
we should try to send this sort of stories to the history and even should leave a blank black page on the history book as a time that no one should know about it.
lets make peace.and forget what was happend ……
I know this is a post from very long ago….I watched Osama (film from 2003) after I watched kite runner. How is it compared to kite runner? Is the Kabul reaction the same?
