American consultant addressing Afghans in English, during question time he asks ‘any question?’. His local Afghan translator translates it as ‘any Pashtoons?’ for which there was a show of hands. Funny, i thought.

Shocking news. A UK- South African woman was shot dead in Karte Sei when walking to work. She was an aid worker for Save the Children, helping handicapped children. After five years in Kabul, they shot her dead. Two gunmen on a motorbike shot her six times before revving away. By the time the police arrived, she was already dead.

Terrible!

Working on university assignments and on law applications.

Wish me luck.

Nerding it up… :d

I wait for the postman to bring me a letter

and i wait for the good Lord to make me feel better

and i carry the weight of the world on my shoulders

family and crises that only grows older

why’d you have to go?

Why’d you have to go?

WHY’D YOU HAVE TO GO?

Daughter to father, daughter to father

i am broken but i am hoping

daughter to father, daughter to father

i am crying, a part of me is dying

these are the confessions of a broken heart.

I dream of another you, one who will never leave me alone to pick up the pieces.

Daddy to hold me, that’s what i needed.

so, why’d you have to go?

Why’d you have to go?

WHY’D YOU HAVE TO GO?

Daughter to father, daughter to father

I don’t know you, but i still want to.

Daughter to father, daughter to father,

tell me the truth… did you ever love us?

These are the confessions of a broken heart.

Confessions of a broken heart.

I love you.

I love you.

Daughter to father, daughter to father,

i don’t know you, but i still want to.

daughter to father, daughter to father,

tell me the truth, did you ever love us?

Then… why? Why? WHY?

These are…

these are…

…the confessions

of a broken heart!

There are so many mini earthquakes in Kabul. I felt quite a big one in the middle of the night a while ago and another during the day.

Life is still the same, nothing new to talk about. The exciting thing is that H and I are planning our next trip to Australia. I’m looking forward to that.

I’ve been working round the clock working on my university assignments and my own assignment. The latter is doing better than the former.

Hope the interest rates drop. Mortgage is killing my financial situation.

We celebrated Eid in Pakistan. Security was extremely tight due to the Marriott Hotel bombing but nothing compared to Kabul’s security hype. We spent a night in Islamabad then left for Peshawar the next day. Eid was alright, weren’t many celebrations as i expected. But still, was good to get out of Kabul and see my in laws and McDonalds. I even brought burgers back to Kabul with myself for my sisters. Was still as good as new.

Bought a pair of clothes from Sobia Nazir (the ‘Gucci’ of Pakistan). We were there for a week, so it was good – not too long and not too short. We returned to Islamabad, did a bit of shopping. I love the bookstores, amazingly cheap.

Then back to Kabul.

We flew with United Nations Humanitarian  Air Service (UNHAS), a small plane accomodating 12 people. They had international pilots and a better baggage check than the commercial airlines which made me feel a lot better. I fell asleep almost instantly. At one point I opened my eyes and looked out; saw the dry, brown, dusty mountains and i thought yep, we’re in Afghanistan’ . Not a good feeling, I tell ya!

Oh yeah and I lost my mobile phone on our way back to Kabul at Islamabad airport. Well i didn’t lose it, my lovely husband did. He left it behind. It wasn’t me!
